At Aunt Henri, we revel in the fusion of classic design and contemporary fabrics. Recently, we had the joy of bringing a vintage silhouette to life with a modern twist for our friend Becca. The project? A stunning dress crafted from Retro Butterick '52 pattern B6018, made from quilting cotton fabric adorned with pink sheet music. Here’s a glimpse into this unique creation and the creative process behind it.
The pattern is a nostalgic nod to mid-century fashion, capturing the essence of 1950's elegance. This pattern, with its fitted bodice, flared skirt, and classic lines, embodies the grace and sophistication of a bygone era. It speaks to ladies luncheons with finger sandwiches and Friday night cocktail parties at the country club. Its design is not only timeless but versatile, making it an ideal canvas for experimenting with different fabrics and prints.
To breathe new life into this vintage pattern, we chose a fabric that is as unique as it is beautiful: vintage pink sheet music. This fabric features delicate notes and musical symbols, adding a layer of artistry and elegance that perfectly complements the design.
To get the best results from your sewing, be sure to chose your pattern size by your measurements. Sewing pattern sizing does not line up to store bought clothing sizes. To insure success you must use your measurements.
We sewed the pattern faithfully with minor changes. We opted not include the cuffs on the sleeves, used a contrast of white sheet music for the collar and chose to make covered buttons for the front.
The final product is a breathtaking dress that blends vintage charm with contemporary flair. The sheet music fabric adds a unique touch of artistry, making it a standout piece that music loving Becca will treasure for years to come.
